Thanks Anatoly - While I risk being labeled as "Another fool who thinks he is a China expert" the growth and development of China in the past 20 years is one of the most significant economic and sociological developments of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. This family was from Guangdong Province (borders Hong Kong) and this was their first vacation to Hong Kong - a vacation that 20 years ago would have been next to impossible for them to take. I is wonderful to see this kind of new found capacity to travel and experience the world - they certainly were enjoying their visit to Hong Kong and were very happy to have me take their family portrait. My Chinese was not good enough however to get their contact details so I couldn't send a copy back to them...maybe they will see their picture here!
The eerie blue of the water kind of gives it a surreal feel. I'm a little mesmerized by the division of light in the water, the portion of the bridge above the blue water is dark and the portion above the dark water is illuminated. I don't want to write all my observations but it's a photo that is both crazy and cool and keeps drawing my eyes to different parts while trying to categorize it.
I published a BW version of this image in october. I use Silver Efex Pro a lot and as Google bought NIK Software they are offering their whole collection for free. So this is an experiment with quite a lot of PP.
