This was taken at Silver Falls State Park. Silver Falls State Park is a state park in Oregon, located near Silverton, about 20 miles east-southeast of Salem. There are so many waterfalls and so much natural beauty in the Oregon/Washington region.

Lol. This is kind of the back yard in WA state. This up in Snow Lake just before the Enchantments. Camped there the night before heading up. Look up the Enchantments on Google when you get a chance. Hi JT, it's a beast alright. The church is 137 m in length under 33 m high vaults. It is currenty under extensive repairs, that's why not many people know it is open. So nobody inside but me.

Thank you, Terence! Its a beast of a lens, sharp like non other I have tried, but heavy and cumbersome, as the small aperture-ring is right by the mount, and with thick fingers, a bit too close to the camera for my taste. It takes time to use this lens, as the manual focus is something I almost have forgotten about in the last 10 years of only AF-lenses. In the old days (when I started out in photography) all lenses were manual focus and one did not think about it so much, but most lenses had f/3.5 to start with, and we all closed down a few notches anyway. But this lens has a small DOF and perfect focus is crucial! B.T.W.: It is also an expensive pice of glass, and I use it only occasional (when I'm in a special mood!).I have had it for 3 years and I will pass it on to sombody new in the future, because I cannot afford to have it staying in the cupboard all the time :o)

Hi Rene, the exposure time is 30 s at f/2.8, ISO1600. This is a composite using StarStaX, about 150 exposures. Sorry for the dashed trails. This is because I cannot switch off the noise reduction for exposures over 1 s on the Leica SL. I think pretty much any other camera allows users to switch off noise reduction, the Leica SL does not. In other words, as much as I love the Leica SL, for long-time exposures of star trail the camera is essentially useless.

I have some images from Shi Shi., but it's too late to have it posted. You can never predict weather on the coast. It's finicky. I suggest rubber boots for the stretch of the trail between Makah Reservation and Shi Shi. It's 5 miles of mud even in the summer.

I did a quick overview on the lens on Wikipedia. Then I went to B&H to see if it is available and read the reviews. It appears that the Takumar design has been discontinued but they are still available on ebay (and reasonable priced at that) . But I need to read up more on this before I can make any kind of decision. On B&H the few reviews that I read on the Pentax are saying that the 100mm struggles with CA, which was my struggles with this photo. I did find some Groups on Flickr that feature Takumar and will peruse it some later this evening. Sell me on it. Why Pentax SMC Takumar?

Wow !! A COMMENT at last !! I never get any 'comments' on this site -- I was thinking it was a waste of time posting ! In reply : the LENS used is WRONG somehow in the details -- it was my 180mm f4 CFi Sonnar T* NOT the 80mm so I was further away than 3 meters. Regarding COLOUR -- it was on E6 transparency film which I do NOT process myself so take it to a lab. I DO process a lot of my C41 to 'Exhibition Size' 16x12 inches but for small 6x4" I take films to a lab on our town main street where they do an excellent job with colour balance and C41 negative quality. In Philippines, Cebu Images Camera Club friends use labs in Cebu City -- I had some E6 done once many years ago but their C41 quality is not so good !

Nice candid (nice colors as well- its subtlety dark). For me, I am starting to think that street photography could be more natural with a longer lens. Everyone says 35mm or 50mm. I only own two lenses and once you compute the crop factor I basically am shooting with a 50mm and a 135mm (the lenses are a 35mm and a 100mm on a 1.6x sensor). I keep wondering what it would be like shooting the streets with something between 70-90mm. You were standing - I’m guessing - about three meters from the subjects in this shot? I do have a second question for you here, Pete. You shot color film, do you process your own film? Or do you send out? I’m actually thinking of buying a film camera (M7) and I see a lot of write ups on processing B&W but nothing on color. I am fine if it were just B&W but if I ever picked up a roll of Color I worry I would not be able to process it here in the Philippines (especially in the remote part where I live).

I really like the composition and balance in this photo. The grouping of the people is just right as all faces are visible showing the fruits of their labor. However, This is not criticism of an excellent photo. But, I find the processing is lacking in some contrast or whites thus creating a dullish look. Was it the actual lighting condition that give this look or is there room to work with the whites and black in order to give it some more pop? None the less, its a great shot.

Johnlarson - Thank you for taking a look and commenting. It was 10 days of trekking to get up to the Annapurna Base Camp. Most of the trek is through beautiful tropical and sub-tropical forest until you reach 2500 meters then it turns into Alpine terrain without trees. This small village with its tea houses is typical along this route.
