The Golden Cavalier

Photographer notes

A church has existed here since 1100. The church seen today dates from the thirteenth century. It is small but spectacular inside with many objects of interest including medieval wall paintings.

This figure is in memory of Captain Edward St.John who was killed at the Battle of Newbury in 1645 during the English Civil War.

The English Civil War (1642–1651) was a series of armed conflicts and political machinations between Parliamentarians (Roundheads) and Royalists (Cavaliers).
Four Frames.
