Very much a sign of wealth and status in the 18th Century, anyone who was someone had to have an Ice House. The bigger the better. This one is deep. In the winter, ice was broken up on the frozen lake and transported to the Ice House. Wrapped in hay etc. it could last for two years. Used to make chilled deserts etc. for the Master and his Guests.
