This is just a simple desaturation . I would have in the past with film used a yellow/green or just a yellow for this shot which would separate the skin from the background a little better. I should tweak the color levels a little but still prefer the shot in color.
I'll post up another in BW. I used to shoot only TRI-X but now quite like shooting color. I do agree though that BW would suit this guy.
